About the Challenge

To explore possible concepts using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons to benefit customers, Future Transport opened the challenge to the wider community in August 2016. Transport for NSW (TfNSW) worked together with Sydney Trains, as well as various volunteers to trial the use of BLE beacons in wayfinding for vision impaired customers. This inspired the question β€œin what other ways could these beacons benefit customers?”

After closing submissions for the challenge on 5 September 2016, we received a number of innovative entries. 12 of these submissions were chosen to present their ideas to a panel of judges at a pitch event on Friday 16 September 2016. Eight finalists were then selected to access the beacon network at Chatswood Interchange, and were invited to showcase their ideas at demo day in November 2016.

Showcased ideas included solutions for customers with vision impairment, workforce management and personalised trip information.
