Introduction
Taxi customers across NSW can access real time information showing the number of taxis available and the wait time at Taxi Ranks. Equipped with this information customers can make informed choices to enable them to get to their destination in the fastest and most convenient way.
How we are making data accessible
By using smart data capturing and processing (machine learning) the estimated waiting time at taxi rank has been derived and made available via the Transport Open Data Hub.
App developers and third=party organisations can access this information through the Taxi Rank Application Programming Interface - APIs. These provide static, real-time and historical data about selected taxi ranks in NSW.

- The static feed provides details of secure ranks across NSW, location details, and hours of operation.
- The real-time feed provides taxi and passenger information at a particular taxi rank, allowing customers to gauge the current wait time at a particular rank.
- A historical feed provides historical taxi information of taxis and passengers in 15mins blocks for a specified rank and day.
The Taxi Rank APIs provide app developers and other organisations with data feeds which can support customer travel planning or insights to support resource allocation to Industry stakeholders.
Benefits for our customers
Taxi customers can better plan their journeys with real-time insights showing the wait time at nearby taxi ranks. Customers can view the wait time at different taxi ranks and make an informed decision based on variables such as which one is closest, has the shortest wait time, or has the most taxis. Digital apps will be able to use this data to display estimated real-time taxi wait times along with other transport options.
